In his candidate questionnaire, Hillier discussed eliminating health care benefits for part-time elected officials, including the trustees themselves, and proposed a five-step plan to do so. He also wrote about a plan to address capital equipment budgeting for fire and road departments, recycling and aesthetic improvements based on “historical zoning.”
Hillier has experience on the Painesville Township Zoning Commission and currently serves as the chairman. He was formerly a chairman, vice chairman and member of the Eastlake Zoning Board of Appeals.
He credits his leadership experience to 30 years in the U.S. Navy. He is a retired command master chief petty officer.
