A former member of the Parkman Township Zoning Commission, Augustine said he considers himself to be fiscally conservative.
“Too often trustees from townships have a tendency to rubber stamp spending proposals,” he said. “My goal is to make sure spending is very cost effective.”
Augustine said he moved to Parkman 35 years ago because he liked the rural atmosphere, wildlife, low density, forests and farms.
“It should not be inevitable that Parkman becomes a congested suburb,” he added. “It will be difficult but I intend to work toward protecting Parkman’s rural character even though the real estate and land speculators will be against me.
“One possibility to investigate would be a partnership with Western Reserve Land Conservancy to buy development rights from willing sellers to keep large parcels from turning into developments.”
Working to improve the recycling center and buy more materials made from recycled products is another goal.
Augustine, who said he already regularly attends trustee meetings, promised to “actually do some work while in office rather than just attending 2 meetings a month, sitting
on one’s but (sic) and reacting to the latest ‘crisis of the moment.’ ”
