David A. Shaffer for Amherst City Council

David A. Shaffer
Shaffer is a life-long resident of Amherst. He and his wife, Christine, are parents of a 9-year-old daughter.
Shaffer said if elected, a major goal for him is promoting Amherst and its businesses by encouraging residents to spend locally. He said his experience with the IBEW would make for a seamless transition into the present administration when dealing with the financial stability of the city.
“I am accustomed to making tough financial decisions that impact families,” he added.
He also plans to work with surrounding areas to “help protect the middle class values that have made this city and county a place of pride” by promoting the city’s work forces and by requiring the hiring of workers who live in the city.
Shaffer said voters should elect him because his experience as an officer and trustee has taught him to make tough financial decisions.
“I have extensive experience with negotiating between labor and management,” he said. “I am confident with my experience to make tough decisions.”
