Sharon Pearson for Oberlin City Council

Sharon Pearson
This is Pearson’s first time running for public office. Pearson, 46, is a program coordinator for The Oberlin Project and she has an associate degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. She will graduate at the end of this year with a Bachelor of Science in green and sustainable enterprise management.
Pearson is a member of the League of Women Voters, Oberlin Underground Railroad Implementation Team, Oberlin NAACP and the International Association of Administrative Professionals.
If elected, Pearson said she would like to address and advocate for sustainable transportation and policies that support walking, biking and public transportation. She said she also is dedicated to completing the Underground Railroad Project and identifying opportunities to lower the poverty level in Oberlin.
It is important for newly elected officials to base decisions on plans the previous councils have adopted, she said. The city of Oberlin will achieve the above mentioned goals and serve as a model for other communities, she adds.
“I have a proven track record of community service within Oberlin assisting organizations with special events,” she said. “Through the lens of social justice, I am a leader and advocate for environmental justice.”
