Horvath said she should be elected because she brings experience with school policy from the point of view of teachers and students who have had to live with ever-changing state standards and policies.
“I have worked with school administrators to bring about positive change that has lasted after I left,” she said. “For example, I initiated Leadership Camp for all student leaders and their teacher advisors. This has resulted in far better student ownership of clubs and activities, a sense of belonging and empowerment and much needed help to teacher advisors of these clubs.”
Horvath noted that she has seen schools struggle financially since the 1970s and added that she thinks the school board, in cooperation with the superintendent, “can help to create better communication and understanding so that the community will support the schools.”
Her non-elected office experience includes leadership and coaching in the national Educational Theater Association and the Ohio Educational Theater Association. She is president of Geauga Council for Arts and Culture and a current member of Leadership Geauga.
