Mealy, 69, served on the Oberlin City Council from 1986-87 and 2006-07. He has resided in Oberlin for 48 years and served as a corrections counselor and supervisor with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections for 21 years in Grafton, 27 years as an immigration inspector with the United States Department of justice and the Department of Homeland Security and 16 years as an air traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Administration.
Mealy has been active with many community and civic organizations and is a graduate of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Inspector’s Program.
Mealy said continuing to upgrade stormwater services is a priority and also advancing clean and efficient energy opportunities.
“Oberlin can promote new green jobs and economic development by maintaining a highly educated workforce, ensuring reliable utilities, reducing power cost and encouraging more businesses like Greenfield Solar into the city,” he said.
Mealy said his priorities are growing the local economy and supporting existing businesses with lower taxes. He said he also would like to see the completion of the Oberlin Underground Railroad Center-Park and Ride facility, and the support of additional green energy job creation.
“My main concerns are adequate public services, facilities and maintenance by responsible spending, and sensible economic development and planned future growth,” he said.
